The majority of us was born in a family and, sooner or
later, people will expect from us to create a family on our
own . My strange walk of life lead me to get adopted by a
family that pretty much had nothing to share with me except
one simple thing that made us united better than a real
family: the love for the art of bonsai.

As the 20th disciple of Master Kimura, I became part of the
Hamano Motusuke' s bonsai family: my Master has been his
first disciple.
I will be part of this family forever and at this day the
Motosuke's bonsai family gave birth to the greatest talent
in the bonsai world.

The second disciple of Master Kimura is Kazeo Kawabe and his
first disciple is my dear friend and Japanese brother Isao
Omachi.
Omachi san is a very entertaining mix of tradition and
modernity in a very old school enviroment like the bonsai in
Japan and for the last 5 years we have been visit each
other, worked together and had lots and lots of fun sharing
our love for the art, the joy of our friendships.

Till the 2:45pm of the past 11th march Omachi used to live
and work with his wife, 2 lovely young daughters and his
elderly parents in Yamado-cho which was a little fishermen
village in the Iwate prefecture.
Their house was less than 90 yards from the ocean.

I had been the only western to ever visit his place and
last summer I had the immense pleasure to spend 3-4 days in
the lovely company of Omachi and his family. His father
borrowed a friend's little boat and we went cruising up
and down the coast and around lots little islands searching
for the spots where some of the best junipers materials got
collected in the last 40 years.

THE TSUNAMI TOOK EVERYTHING AWAY FROM THEM EXCEPT THEIR
LIFE.

EVERYTHING!

You….. who are reading this few lines try to imagine what
it means to lose absolutely everything you own…..Omachi
lost his house, his garden, his workshops, his bonsai, his
customer's trees, his job, his plans for the future of his
family and his career…..and the house of neighbour and the
one  of the neighbour of the neighbour….the entire village
is simply gone!

Omachi senior has been the one that started Isao on the path
of bonsai and he had cultivated religiously 4 bonsai for the
last 30 years and he considered this 4 masterpieces, that
nobody have never seen before ( but I did ) as his pension,
his retirement plan……now they are all gone.

Few days I created a group on facebook called OMACHI
GAMBATTE.
Gambatte in Japanese means "Good Luck!" as much as "Do
Your Best!"
OMACHI GAMBATTE is the message we want to send to Isao that
he may have lost everything but he still has us, his
friends.
And what friends do in cases like this one?

THEY HELP, WE HELP!

So we are started a global fund raise campaign and 100% of
the money we will collect will get directly into Omachi
family's hands and in the hands of the people of his
village.
